More “reports” are surfacing that claim illegal alien children are being threatened and abused while under Border Patrol custody. The “reports” have led to more demands by Democrats and pro-migrant activists to close detention centers.
According to the reports submitted to the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) by clinicians and case managers, illegal alien children kept in unsanitary conditions and suffered verbal abuse and threats. There are also complaints that the minors had been held in Border Patrol custody for longer than the legally-mandated 72-hour limit before they were transferred to ORR care.
However, the liberal media ignores several facts. First, the Border Patrol has never been designed as a “child care agency.” They do not recruit nor train babysitters.
Second, the CBP facilities were never designed to hold minors or to hold anyone for an extended length of time. Detainees were supposed to be removed (deported) quickly after apprehension.
Third, the Flores law plus the failure of Congress to act have created an incentive for illegal aliens with minors to cross and caused the resulting overcrowding.
Minors, as well as all illegal aliens, should be deported immediately. Quick removal and deportation would discourage more illegal aliens from coming, which would solve the alleged problems at the detention centers.
Finally, aliens seeking asylum must apply and wait in another country rather than come to the U.S and wait here. We must review all applicants before they are allowed to enter our country.
If anyone is responsible for the overcrowding in detention centers and the frustration by some Border Patrol agents, it is Congress, specifically Democrats. Democrats first failed to admit there was a border crisis, and now they are using it for political gain.
However, blaming the Border Patrol for this overcrowding and its problems is like blaming police for making too many arrests and overcrowded jails. The issue could be resolved if aliens stopped coming to the U.S. ILLEGALLY.
