The Pentagon announced on Wednesday, May 8, that it has enough funding to build 256 more miles of border wall soon, and will start construction at a rate of about a half mile a day over the next six months. The wall will help slow the tide of illegal immigration, but it brought immediate condemnation from Democrats and pro-open borders advocates.
Democrats in Congress are arguing it could violate America’s long-standing separation of the military and law enforcement. However, they ignore that this is more than local law enforcement; this is about securing the national border and controlling the illegal entry of foreigners.
CBS’ “60 Minutes” show did a report on the border on Sunday, April 27, and the New York Times did a piece about the “border crisis”, so it appears some liberals made be waking up to the problems on the border. However, conservatives need to have a reality check on illegal immigration and border security, because even if the border is secured today and all illegal immigration ended, what about the rest of the problem? Or have we lost America already?
- What about the Illegal aliens already here? Will they be rounded up and deported?
- What about the illegal alien children with “families”? Will DACA apply to them and their families? Will they receive a new special amnesty?
The Democrat governor of New Mexico, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, demanded on Friday, April 19, that members of the United Constitutional Patriots, a “militia group” as described by the liberal Mainstream Media, stop detaining or arresting illegal aliens at the border. Gov. Grisham said the group members are "regular citizens who have no authority to arrest or detain anyone."
On the other hand, the American Civil Liberties Union of New Mexico wants Gov. Grisham and the New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas to investigate the group because they say some of the group's members are armed. It appears the NM ACLU is familiar with the Second Amendment.
Gov. Grisham reaction is not surprising. She has been a critic of Pres. Trump’s immigration and border security policies and refused to support the Border Patrol in her state.
While the ACLU is demanding an investigation of the United Constitutional Patriots, the ACLU itself should be investigated for defending illegal aliens, for un-American activities, and for undermining the Constitution of the United States.
We must stop illegal immigration by not excusing illegal aliens and rewarding them with legal aid.
This week, April 22-26, 2019, the U.S. Supreme Court will consider whether to count self-identified illegal aliens in the 2020 census. Democrats and liberals are worried that adding the “citizenship question” could result in an undercount and the loss of political power and billions of dollars in federal funds. However, American taxpayers deserve to know how many illegal aliens reside in their communities because of the public costs.
Many Americans have complained for years about the growing cost to taxpayers, especially regarding the impact of the current surge of Central American families and unaccompanied minors. In 2017, Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), the pro-legal immigration think tank, found illegal aliens are a net consumer of taxpayer benefits worth more than $100 billion a year, not including the cost of enforcing the border.
Dan Stein, director of FAIR, said, "We're talking about billions of dollars in taxpayer benefits over the next few years. The payout for the taxpayer is enormous, and income to the Treasury is minuscule."
The Trump administration is proposing a new rule to try to block some 32,000 illegal alien-led families (families where the head-of-hold is an illegal alien) from receiving taxpayer-funded public housing assistance because it’s unfair to hundreds of thousands of Americans who are stuck on waiting lists.
Housing and Urban Development (HUD) notified Congress Wednesday of the new rule, kicking off a schedule of publication and notice and comment that could have the plan finalized later this summer.
In 1993, when I was working as a special assistant to then-HUD Secretary Jack Kemp, then Republican California Senator Pete Wilson asked HUD to support rules and regulations that prohibited of illegal aliens renting taxpayer-funded public housing. Wilson said allowing illegal aliens to live in public-housing would help Republicans bring Hispanics into the Republican Party. That never happened in California.
No doubt, Democrats and the liberal media will call this policy change “inhumane” and “discriminatory.” However, what is the point of being a legal immigrant or a lawful citizen, if illegal aliens receive the same benefits, services, and rights?
Until America stops rewarding illegal aliens with public housing or any other type of taxpayer-funded benefits and services, illegal immigration will continue. This policy change is one of several steps that need to be taken to stop and discourage illegal immigration.
